What is laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal is a professional treatment that uses light energy to target unwanted hair at the follicle. The aim is to reduce hair growth over time, leaving the skin smoother for longer.

How does it work?

The laser targets the pigment in the hair. This light is converted into heat, which helps to damage the hair follicle and slow down future growth. Because hair grows in different stages, a course of treatments is needed for the best results.

Is laser hair removal permanent?

Laser hair removal gives long-term hair reduction, but it is better described as permanent hair reduction rather than guaranteed permanent removal. Some clients may need occasional top-up treatments, especially if hair growth is affected by hormones or other changes in the body.

Does it hurt?

Most people find the treatment very manageable. The sensation is often described as a “slide and glide feeling” on the skin. Comfort levels can vary depending on the area being treated and your own sensitivity, but there is hardly no pain at all, you might feel a tiny bit of warmth but it’s more cool. The SMARTDiode system is designed with client comfort in mind.

How many sessions will I need?

Most clients need a course of around 8–12 treatments, depending on the area, hair type, skin type and how your hair responds. Because hair grows in different stages, a course is needed to target the hairs at the right time. Any hair that does return is usually finer, softer and lighter. Tracey will go through this with you during your consultation and advise what is best for you.

Is it suitable for all skin types?

The SMARTDiode system is suitable for all skin types Fitzpatrick 1-5. Settings are carefully adjusted to suit your skin, hair and treatment area, helping to keep the treatment safe and effective.

Are there any side effects?

It is normal for the skin to look a little red or feel warm after treatment, but this usually settles quickly. A patch test is always carried out at least 24 hours before treatment to check skin response and make sure the treatment is suitable for you.

What areas can be treated?

Laser hair removal can be used on many areas of the face and body, including:

How do I prepare for my appointment?

Before your treatment, please shave the area around 24 hours before your appointment. Avoid waxing, tweezing or threading before and during your course, as the hair follicle needs to be present for the laser to work.

It is also important to avoid sun exposure, sunbeds and fake tan on the treatment area before your appointment. Certain active skincare products, such as retinoids or strong acids, may also need to be avoided on the area being treated.

How much does laser hair removal cost?

Is laser hair removal safe?

Yes, when carried out by a trained professional using the correct settings, laser hair removal is considered a safe and effective treatment. At the salon, all treatments are carried out by Tracey, the salon owner, so you will be looked after by the same experienced therapist from consultation through to treatment.

Who may not be suitable for laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal may not be suitable during pregnancy, for some skin conditions, or when taking certain medications that make the skin more sensitive to light. This will all be checked during your consultation before treatment begins.
